Four men go on trial for theft of giant gold coin from Berlin museum

BERLIN ( ) – Four men went on trial on Thursday for stealing a gold coin the size of a manhole cover from one of Germany’s flagship museums in a daring night-time heist using a ladder and a wheelbarrow.

German authorities believe the 100 kg (220 pound) Canadian “Big Maple Leaf” – once recognized as the biggest gold coin in the world – has been melted down since its theft from Berlin’s Bode Museum in March 2017.

Prosecutors say three of the suspects broke into the museum through an upstairs window and used a ladder, wheelbarro,上海品茶水磨Jack,w and rope to extract the coin from a bullet-proof glass. The fourth suspect was a museum guard accused of helping them.

The co,上海品茶工作室Kaia,in, more than half a meter (yard) in diameter, three cm (1.2 inches) thick and made from ultra-pure gold, is one of just six produced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2007 and was loaned to the museum by a private owner. It was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest gold coin in the world at the time it was made, although Australia has since minted one even bigger. Like other Canadian coins it bears the image of Canada’s head of state, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.

The suspects were not identified under German legal rules. Three of them are related and three were under the age of 21 at the time of the crime, which means the trial took place in a youth court.

‘Pedophile broke into child’s home when she was off school sick then killed her’

A pedophile broke into a girl’s home while she was off school sick and tried to rape her before murdering her, police say.

Yhoana Arteaga, 12, was home nursing a sore ankle in August 2017 when neighbor Roy Coons, 46, reportedly appeared at her front door of her home in Nashville, Tennessee.

The worried youngster’s mother Patricia Velasquez had ensured she knew all about personal safety, so Yhoana sent her mom a text saying: ‘Someone is knocking at the door.’

It is unclear what happened next, but Patricia arrived home with her two other children shortly afterwards to find Yhoana dead with a karate belt around her neck.

Blood was coming out of her ears and mouth, and the little girl’s pants had been pulled down.

In haunting court testimony delivered Tuesday, Patricia told jurors how she had started work at noon on the day of Yhoana’s murder.

Coons was arrested shortly after Yhoana’s murder, and is now on trial for first-degree murder, attempted rape of a child and especially aggravated burglary.

Police say they found traces of DNA belonging to Coons on Yhoana’s body, the Tennessean reported.

They also highlighted Yhona’s last text message, explaining the man at the door had previously worked in their yard.

Patricia said she’d hired Coons to work in her yard in the months leading up to her daughter’s horrific death.

Coon’s attorney David Hopkins says the alleged killer’s DNA was only present at the family’s property because of this yard work.

He said his client denies the murder, and highlights that there wa,上海品茶工作室Harmony,s no eyewitness or video footage, and no apparent reason for him to kill Yhoana.

The case continues.
